Olympus 4

"Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future .. and it changed us. It taught us that we have to create the future .. or others will do it for us. It showed us that we have care for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope .. that there can always be new beginnings .. even for people like us." — General Ivanova in Babylon 5:"Sleeping in Light"

History

In ABY22/2385, Captain Zon Huntreas of the U.S.S. //Explorer// traveled through time to the distant future and ended up beng told to bring home a souvenir: a nine kilometer long rotating space station, structured around a mixture of an Island-3 style O'Neill cylinder space colony, and an Ancient Lantean cityship.

The station remained hidden in an oort cloud at the edge of the Tatoo system for two years before an attack by the Goa'uld revelaed the existance of the station to the public. Afterwards, it was decided to act as neutral territory, a sort of meeting-place between the various factions and political forces of the Arkanis Sector and the galaxy, if not universe at large.

It, along with the spaceports of Tatooine, are often the first stops for any ship coming to, or from, the Route of Ages.

Olympus Council

The most important function of the Olympus Station is to provide a secure meeting place for the various faction which populate the Outer Rim sector of the galaxy, in particular the Arkanis Sector. As such, many factions dispatch Ambassadors or other officials to represent their government or interests in the halls of discourse. At this time, the current Olympus Council membership is divided into three distinct parts—the Security Council, which consists of the founding members of Olympus, the Olympus Members, which are those who are elligable to vote in Council meetings, and Recognized Factions, which are not. This may be due to the faction being too small to necessitate a vote, or may be a sub-group allied with a larger faction who they work with to exercise political authority.

The Security Council:
The United Federation of Planets
The New Republic
The Outer Rim Republic
The Kukai Foundation
The United Systems Alliance of Tatooine

Important Notes

The Olympus 4 station is a similar design to the Obanna Station that the Tragolite Federation built around 19ABY. It has generally supplanted Obanna as the orbital stop-off for trade and shipping in the Tatooine system, but retains the majority of Obanna's problems with organized crime and defense.

Olympus 4 sits in the orbit of Tatooine, at a Lagrange point between the planet and it's third moon.
